Growth in the Midst of Obstacles

The Wall that Surrounds our former parking lot.
Over the last several months I have been teaching through the book of Hebrews during our weekend services. This weekend we reached the "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11. As you read through the names of men and women who chose to live by faith you find strength and encouragement for your own journey. It's amazing to me how the Lord gives you the very passages of scripture you need, right when you need them.
Calvary Chapel San Juan has never owned a single parking spot. We share parking with the school, the city, the Catholic Church, and the Mission. When the church began we only had one service, it wasn't that difficult to find parking. Over the years we were able to secure a parking lot with ninety spots. It was such a blessing to know that even though you had to walk a couple blocks the parking would be there for the church. We knew however that the parking we were leasing was only temporary. There was a construction company that was putting plans in motion to build a hotel. That day has finally arrived and have they started construction. The parking lot we had is no longer available. A giant wall has been built around the entire area.  The remaining city parking on the  corner will also go away as construction continues. Praise the LORD!
In a recent mens prayer meeting we brought the situation before the Lord. During that time, the Lord reminded me of the children of Israel in Exodus 1:12 " the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew.." Looking at Israel's circumstances you would think that the more difficult things became they would shrink, but actually the opposite took place. At that moment I prayed, "Lord I pray the more difficult it gets to park the more you would work in our fellowship."
The Bible Bus
The Lord is faithful and we are making it work for the time being. We are now renting shuttles to bring people to church from other lots. I call the shuttle, the "Bible Bus". I am not sure what the next step is for us, but I ask that you would continue to pray with us as we seek the will of the Lord for our fellowship.  There is talk of more parking opening up in the city at some point. Until then we will keep walking by faith and trusting in the Lord.

Thank you in advance for your prayers..... PJ
